Introduction
As I wrote in the last article, which you can find here, hopefully you are beginning to understand the wild, unpredictable nature of Uranus forming a square to Mercury. Seeing that Mercury is implicated here, this aspect greatly affects communication, for better or worse. In true Uranian fashion, this can cause the native who has this placement to blurt things that are often obscene, or not socially acceptable. Oftentimes, it is unintentional, seeing that both Mercury and Uranus fully embra
e the Trickster archetype. As I examine this aspect throughout charts, I do suspect many people with this tumtulous placement are on the Autism Spectrum.
However, accidental bouts of diarrhea of the mouth are not always unpremeditated. Mercury square Uranus is indeed strong troll energy. Though sometimes things may be blurted out unplanned, there is often deliberation when communicating something harsh or critical. Those who embrace this placement can often be seen with a twinkle in their eye when breaking someone down on comment sections on YouTube videos, or debates on a Twitter feed. Though this placement can do more harm than good at times, there is a higher evolutionary purpose of Uranus square Mars.
Uranus is the Iconoclast of the Zodiac, it takes beliefs of people and breaks them down, often spitting them out in the face of the herd who desperately cling to the paradigms fed to them. Those who have Mercury squaring Uranus are there to challenge those who easily buy into the status quo and proselyte those who are challenged to think independently. Intelligence is also a strong point for many with Mercury square Uranus as well, but a high intellect can be quite burdensome as well. When you hold a higher knowledge, others rarely see the same source of light you do. You will be told you’re crazy, or even stupid. Ironically, many are asleep to the truth and ignorantly, yet blissfully lay hidden from the harm of free-thought. Today, I am going to examine, and break apart folks with this placement and see how it manifests through several natives of Mercury making a square to Uranus.
Elon Musk
Not only is Elon Musk a massive troll who seemingly enjoys the uproar he causes, Musk also owns X, which is one of the largest trolling platforms in the world. While hosting Saturday Night Live, Musk publicly announced in front of an audience of millions, that he had self-diagnosed himself with Asperger’s Syndrome. While not a licensed practitioner who has the credentials to diagnose ASD, Musk does have strong traits of someone on the spectrum. Many argue how smart Elon is with many people claiming he has an IQ of 160+, while others guess he might be in the above average range. A high intelligence is a trademark of Uranus making a square to Mercury, the question is how intelligent Musk really is. When reading Elon Musk’s Natal chart (you can read the article here, or watch the video here) it seems that learning tact and empathy is a lesson needed to be learned for the billionaire in this life.
Musk’s Mercury lies directly on his Cancer Ascendant, making a conjunction to his Sun. Forming a square with Mercury, Musk has Uranus in the Third House in Libra. While soft-spoken with a Cancerian Mercury, Musk on many instances has repeatedly put his foot in his mouth advertently, and inadvertently. People with strong Mercury placements, especially in the First House have strong tendencies to overshare. For instance, going on network television and spewing out a diagnosis for a developmental disorder. Someone with Uranus in the Third House should be a powerhouse when it comes to intellect, however it will manifest in a chaotic fashion, creating a double-edged sword that cuts the native deeply. With a Libra influence, having Uranus in the sign of relationships may struggle with erratic, and unpredictable communication amongst peers and beyond.
Not only is Mercury and Uranus making a square on their own, let’s throw Chiron in the mix in the Ninth House in Aries. It’s no secret that Musk immigrated from South Africa, but while running the newly formed DOGE under the Trump Administration, Musk has not shown
much compassion towards his foreign comrades. The T-sqaure from Uranus making a conjunction to Chiron, with Mercury in tow, indicates turbulence with not only foreigners themselves, but possible altercations with various nations around the globe. Mercury is also forming a quincunx with Musk’s North Node, which in turn is conjoining Mars, making an out of quality conjunction. Musk has a need to use social media to propel his mission to occupy Mars, but would be wise to heed past lessons from his galivanting Leo South Node in the First House. Musk needs public support and funding for his Martian endeavors, but is easily, and seemingly falling into old tendencies where he goes online to pontificate himself and troll the world.
Lady Gaga
Not completely sure of an accurate birth time, we will explore how Lady Gaga’s Mercury square Uranus manifests according to her natal chart. Lady Gaga is known for her eclectic, and often eccentric style of dress and music. Gaga is often praised for her radical innovations and activism. Interestingly enough, both energies of Mercury and Uranus are in Retrograde, making her expression of these usually extroverted dynamics more introverted and personal. Starting off with Mercury, we see that the Planet of Communication resides in Pisces in the Tenth House of Career. The speedy planet is also making a loose conjunction with jovial Jupiter, pepping up the retrograding Trickster. Obviously, Uranus squares Mercury in quite an interesting configuration. Retrograde Uranus is making a conjunction with Lady Gaga’s Descendant in Sagittarius and well as Neptune.
When it comes to Lady Gaga, expecting the unexpected probably would be a wise course of action. Gaga’s music doesn’t fit into any box, dabbling in various genres as she refuses to be type casted. Lady Gaga’s appearance has stirred up even more controversy over the years, making a trine to Venus conjoined the North Node, this seems to be the particular mission in this life seeing that the Love Goddess both represents music and fashion. Lady Gaga identifies as bisexual, which seems to be common with Mars near the descendant. Mars also makes the conjunction to Neptune, which is often seen as the higher octave of Venus, blending the masculine and the feminine. Neptune also is the ruler of the Tenth House of Career, where Mercury lies in her chart, indicating a need to speak up for social justice and fairness for all, or at least some people.
Lady Gaga is a proponent of the LGBTQ community and has done much philanthropic work around the world, giving millions in relief when natural disasters strike. Rather than stand on a podium and preach and lead pickets, Lady Gaga uses her music and artistic expression to fight for these causes. Seeing that both Uranus and Mercury are both in retrograde, Lady Gaga fights for causes indirectly rather than head on. One controversial fashion statement Gaga made was an outfit totally designed from beef. Gaga has her own line of vegan cosmetics, so I’m not sure how using beef as a way to protest animal cruelty is applicable, however it is quite Uranian!
Vladimir Putin
Now let’s take a look at one of the scariest, and powerful in the world, Vladimir Putin. Putin is a leader of Russia, and is currently leading a war against Ukraine to gain some territory back lost by the Soviet Union long ago. Being a part of a rather large stellium, Putin’s Mercury resides in the Twelfth House conjunct Neptune, Saturn which is on the cusp of the Eleventh and Twelfth House, and the Sun. Neptune and the Twelfth House are doubling up on secrecy and are quite obscured as well. Putin seems to be a man of few words, seeing that he speaks Russian, I don’t understand any of them without reliance on translation. Uranus is in the Ninth House residing in emotional Cancer. This alone should say that Putin is defiant when it comes to foreign trade and policy, seeing that the Ukrainian Conflict started over Ukraine’s wishes to join NATO, seeing it as an act of treason. Putin seems to be possibly holding on to the days of the U.S.S.R..
With the Sun and Saturn making a conjunction, Putin seems to be a destined, and possibly harsh leader seeing that this stellium bleeds over to the House of Community. Putin has rigged elections over decades and has been able to stay in power in Russia, essentially making himself a dictator. With Putin being a man of power, Putin is willing to go to drastic and damning means to get what he sees fit. With the Stellium which contains Mercury making a sextile to his South Node and Pluto Conjunction, Putin is definitely hanging on to his old needs of power and control. Uranus, which is the ruler of the North Node, is making a quincunx to the North Node itself in Aquarius in the Third House conjunction the Astrological Nadir. The Nodal destiny Putin seems to be ignoring is allowing his countrymen to share his power and have autonomy over themselves. With the Ruler of the North Node, Uranus in the Ninth House of foreign affairs, it seems it would be beneficial for Putin to let bygones be bygones and allow other nations to make their own decisions on the course of how they want their nations to be run.
Putin seems more of a man of action rather than words. Putin has threatened to use nuclear weapons several times with the U.S. and NATO meddling in his affairs. Putin doesn’t seem to know when to quit as well. With Western aid, Ukraine have taken far more Russian casualties then they would without support of the West. What’s daunting about Putin’s chart, is Pluto, which indeed rules nuclear weapons, is in a tight conjunction with the South Node. Upon Pluto’s discovery, nuclear weapons showed their ugly face in the world. Though Putin being a proponent of these warheads is unlikely, Putin may have been very destructive in past lives. Having Uranus square Mercury is one of the tell-tale signs that Putin my takes very drastic, and unpredictable measures to protect his dominance he has on the East.

When looking into sources for my own learning, I am often disappointed to only see a paragraph or two on a subject as vast and complicated as Mercury square Uranus. Alone, Mercury and Uranus are quite chaotic energies and are hard to forecast, so they may exhibit in a variety of ways. When it comes down to the nitty-gritty, Mercury square Uranus shows an exemplary out-of-the-box style of thinking and communication.
